The Panthers JV put in an impressive display of passing soccer to ease past Shadow Ridge. Starting line up: Dagum, Trevor Wattles, Franco, Stodick, Claire, McGee, Posada, Wener, Parker, Hayes, Gray.
The Shadow Ridge attack was rather one-dimensional with them playing balls into space for their pacey striker. However, the excellent positioning, defensive cover, and speed of the Panthers defense denied the Shadow Ridge striker any opportunities. Five minutes in Nathan Dagum made an acrobatic save high to the left to deny a good shot from 20 yards but this was the extent of Shadow Ridge efforts on goal for the whole game. The Panthers gave a display of passing soccer that was amongst their best this season. They used the width intelligently, especially through Luke McGee on the left wing who constantly caused problems for the Shadow Ridge defense. The Shadow Ridge goalkeeper was the only thing that stopped the Panthers from racking up a basketball score as the constantly threatened the goal. He saved shots from Ricky Gray, Cole Wener, and Josh Parker before the breakthrough. On 20 minutes Sebastian Franco surged out of defense and found Gray making an excellent run between two defenders. Gray shot well but his effort was well saved by the goalkeeper. However, the keeper could not prevent the rebound and the ever alert Jacques Giutetto pounced to convert from close range. Five minutes later in an almost identical move Gray was put through by Wener but this time shot straight at the goalkeeper with Giutetto calling for a square ball for an easy tap in. Half time 1-0.
The Panthers continued to dominate and ran out comfortable winners. Starting line up: Dagum, Grunwald, Franco, Stodick, Claire, Ruffer, Mohamed, Schutze, Ryder, Hayes, Gray.
The Panthers continues with the same style of play despite the personnel changes. Particularly impressive was Saifir Mohamed who is growing into the defensive midfield role. He continually won challenges in the center of the field and always used the ball intelligently. The second goal came off Zeck Ruffer seizing on a lose ball in midfield and playing an intelligent through pass to Gray who ran into the penalty area and finished impressively past the advancing goalkeeper. The Panthers then proceeded to pepper the Shadow Ridge goal, with the goalkeeper making a string of impressive saves from Hayes and Gray. Franco delivered an excellent free kick into the penalty area and Connor Schutze’s excellent header went inches over the crossbar. Final score 2-0.
The Panthers JV unceremoniously dismantled an undefeated Shadow Ridge team in an impressive performance of team work. The win was far more comfortable that the scoreline indicates due largely to the Shadow Ridge goalkeeper and poor Panthers finishing.
