Game Recap

The Panthers JV extended their unbeaten run to 8 games with a hard fought 1-0 win against a defensively strong Arbor View. Starting line up: Probst, Grunwald, Franco, Stodick, Claire, McGee, Posada, Wener, Parker, Hayes, Gray.

The Panthers dominated from the off but were unable to create any meaningful chances against a strong Arbor View defense. Lamar Hayes had a couple of promising runs in behind which came to nothing. The Panthers seemed to struggle with the headwind and resorted too often to the long, high ball over the top to little effect. Arbor View had their moments but did not trouble Kyle Probst in goal. With 20 minutes gone Lady Luck smiled on the Panthers. Cole Wener received a pass from Sebastian Franco and his controlling touch was poor and caused the ball to bounce to waist height. Wener volleyed the descending ball on target with an effort that should have been a routine save for the goalkeeper. However, the shot seemed to catch the keeper by surprise and he struggled to adjust his feet. He fell backward and watched as the shot bounced in front of and over him. While a little fortunate, it was a fair reflection of the half even if the Panthers were not at their best. Half time 1-0.

The second half saw the Panthers do a better job of keeping the ball on the floor and playing as a team. They kept Arbor View pinned back for long periods but were unable to extend their lead. Starting line up: Probst, Trevor Wattles, Franco, Stodick, Claire, Ruffer, Mohamed, Schutze, Conner Wattles, Hayes, Gray. (probably!)

The Panthers continually knocked on the door but were unable to create any clear chances and any half chances were spurned. Franco wasted a couple of good free kick positions and Gray shot tamely at the goalkeeper on multiple occasions. At the other end, Arbor View had one golden opportunity as a bouncing ball in the penalty are fell to a striker only 8 yards out and it he looked certain to score. However, the ever alert Franco nipped in to clear the ball out for a corner as the striker waited for it to drop. Full time 1-0.
