Palo Verde High School
Virgin Valley High School
The Panthers JV strolled to victory in their first game of the season away to Virgin Valley. The first half saw constant Panthers pressure. Although, at times there was a tendency to attack through the congested middle of the field. The breakthrough came after 10 minutes when Lamar Hayes was put in behind the right full back by an intelligent diagonal pass from Josh Parker and Hayes made no mistake past the keeper. Hayes returned the favor five minutes later when he set up Parker who finished smartly. Half time 2-0.
The second half began with an excellent passing move from defense. Sebastian Franco passed the ball wide to left full back Trevor Wattles. Wattles found Zeke Ruffer on the wing who switched the ball inside to Nour Kanater. Kanater split the defense with an intelligent ball to Richard Gray who took one controlling touch before slotting the ball side footed past the advancing goalkeeper. This was the type of passing play that this team is capable of and the goal was an excellent team effort. The game was becoming a little too easy for the Panthers and as a result there was too much indulgence in dribbling and too little team play. However, the Panthers managed to add two more goals. Connor Wattles converted nicely after being set up by Connor Schutze for the first of the two. For the second, Noah Grunwald collected the ball on the halfway line and dribbled four or five players before shooting powerfully past the keeper from the edge of the area. Final score 5-0 and an impressive start to the season.
