There’s little that needs to be said when describing the dominant week Palo Verde athletic teams had in winning 5 (FIVE) state championships and showing why the Panther athletic program remains the class of large schools in the state of Nevada.
Here’s a brief recap of each teams winning performance:
Palo Verde topped Reed 9-3 in the final of the Class 4A state tournament Saturday at Bishop Gorman.
Palo Verde (37-6), which lost to the Raiders 4-3 in the morning game, won their first state title since 2014 and third overall.
Boys and Girls Swimming:
The Palo Verde boys team, meanwhile, won its fifth consecutive title with not nearly as much drama or challenge.
The Palo Verde girls scored 126 team points to win the state championship over Green Valley, which was second with 119. Desert Oasis was the next-best Southern Nevada team in sixth place with 30 points.
Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team took the first two sets with relative ease from Las Vegas High in the Class 4A state final. After losing the third set, the Panthers won the 4th set and clinched their second state title in three years.
Palo Verde posted a two-day score of 788 to hold off Bishop Manogue, which placed second at 796. Coronado finished third at 800, Galena, tied with Palo Verde for the first-round lead, was fourth at 802, Faith Lutheran fifth at 827 and Foothill sixth at 889.
