Game Recap

The Panthers put in a display of exhibition soccer for this rout of Faith Lutheran. The Panthers dominated from the first whistle to the last in a display of attractive attacking soccer. The Panthers open their account on 10 minutes when Presten Manthey finished with a fine left foot drive under the keeper after receiving a pass from the impressive Henry Robledo. Manthey returned the favor five minutes later. Ryan Simone played an excellent pass to Manthey who dummied the ball to deceive the defender and release Robledo on goal. Robledo made no mistake with the finish, shooting into the bottom right corner of the goal. The Panthers pressure on the Faith Lutheran goal was relentless and fine efforts by Manthey, Robledo, and Stephens were saved by the keeper. Faith earned a rare corner which unfortunately for them led to The Panther’s third goal on a fine example of quick counter-attacking. Ryan Simone headed the corner clear and the ball was picked up by Robledo who quickly found Manthey who had made an intelligent run to the right side on half way. Robledo ran on and Manthey played an excellent blind pass behind the Faith defense for Robledo to run on to and finish smartly past the advancing keeper. The Panthers maintained the pressure for the remainder of the first half and came close on a number of occasions. With a number of half-time substitutions, The Panthers again showed their depth as they continued to dominate proceedings. Faith old boy Nick Frost was moved from defense to an attacking midfield position which paid off within 10 minutes when Frost shot well from 12 yards to beat the keeper after a clever layoff from Manthey. At 4-0 Manthey had been involved in every goal but his substitution had no effect on The Panther’s momentum. Isaac Knecht scored his first goal of the season on an easy tap in as he was first to get to the rebound when the Faith keeper failed to hold a Robledo shot. Knecht doubled his total a few minutes later when he intelligently anticipated a ball pulled across the goal by Kyle Buonto and finished calmly. Knecht was denied a hat trick when his third goal was ruled out for offside. There were many positives to be taken from this game, but the most important was the ability of the team to maintain a high playing level throughout the game regardless of who was on the field. We were able to get all players into the game for substantial playing time and the desire of all players to perform at their best was clearly evident. GO PANTHERS!!
