Palo Verde’s girl’s soccer team turned back Bishop Gorman in an incredible Sunset Regioin semifinal game featuring two of the state’s best.

After a scoreless first half, the teams traded four goals in the next 40 minutes. Madison Hernandez’s goal with six minutes remaining appeared to be a winner for Palo Verde, when the freshman parlayed a slide tackle into a long shot attempt that sneaked inside the left post.

Senior Macee Barlow headed in the winning goal five minutes into the second overtime to lift the Panthers over top-seeded Bishop Gorman 3-2 in a marathon of a Class 4A Sunset Region semifinal.

The Panthers now face rival Arbor View for the right to head to the state tournament on Saturday morning at 12 pm.
