Game Recap

The Panthers defeated league leaders Centennial away from home in an impressive display of team play. The 2-1 score line does not accurately reflect The Panther’s domination and goal scoring chances created. The Centennial defense came into the game with a reputation for allowing few chances. However, from the kick off The Panthers got behind the Centennial defense repeatedly and one of these opportunities led to the opening goal. Presten Manthey laid back a quick ball out of defense to Zech Ruffer who played an excellent first-time pass behind the right full back for Henry Robledo. Robledo ran clear into the penalty area and was pulled back by the defender for a penalty kick, which was calmly converted by Manthey. The Panthers saw out the half limiting Centennial to half chances and shots from outside the box. Levi Lord made two smart saves from shots but was otherwise untroubled. The Panthers domination increased in the second half but they were unable to take the chances that came their way. Mikey Vogel, Tim Stephens, and Manthey call came close multiple times, with Manthey unluckily striking the post. The securoty of a second goal came with 10 minutes remaining when Manthey played a through ball to Robledo who finished smarty off the inside of the post from 14 yards. Centennial got a late consolation off a penalty kick, which was the last kick of the game. GO PANTHERS!!
